Council Finder: Housing Help Near You

Enter your postcode once and go straight to the right page on your own council's website.

Find your own council: we have a step-by-step complaint page for every UK council, with its process, time limits and ombudsman. Find your council in the A to Z.

Free. Your postcode is sent only to GOV.UK, the government website, which then takes you to your council. CPUK does not see or keep it. These links cover England; GOV.UK also covers some services in Wales.

Then choose what you need. Each button opens the official GOV.UK page for your council in a new tab.

  • The council's home page and contact details.
  • Your council's homelessness and housing advice team.
  • Join your council's housing register (waiting list).
  • Apply for help paying council tax.
  • Housing Benefit from your council, where it still applies.
  • Apply for help with adaptations to your home.
  • Report noisy neighbours or other noise to the council.

Two Councils in Your Area?

In some parts of England there is a district council and a county council. Housing, council tax, homelessness and noise are usually handled by the district council; adult social care is handled by the county council. GOV.UK will show you both if it needs to.

Problems with A Private Landlord?

There is no single national form. Use Your Council's Website above and search for private housing or environmental health, or read how to report a landlord to the council.
